Email from a friend:
Jim: I’m only sending this to you because I don’t know if I ever told you that Harry Truman and my Grandfather, Bill Marlin grew up together and were best friends through all the years. I have a photo of Harry Truman written with love and well wishes to my Gramps. I will treasure it because it is part of my life and remember the stories my Grandpa use to tell me about Harry. They were born a month or so apart, the went to a one room school house with ten students. I cherish the little notes that were sent by President Truman to my Gramps. One right here he wrote, “how you doing bud? call me if you need anything, Harry” That from the White House from a sitting President. Both Gramps and Harry became lawyers and then circuit court judges. Grandpa would take me down to our own private fishing hole and he would tell me about the time a bully was pushing around a little guy. Harry would have none of it, jumped up and took the bully down. Gramps told me Harry Truman was the most honest and decent person he ever knew but never held back when he thought there was wrongdoing going on. SS.
P.S. Jim I was kinda afraid to mention this to you because Truman was a Democrat and you don’t think much of them.
So just how cool is that folks? I replied just a moment a go on the phone, Give um Hell Harry was a rock star and I even remember my parents admiration for him. He would clearly be a Democrat that would stand in the way of the tyranny the current administration attempts to thrust upon us.
Well there you have it folks a true memory from of the man from talks with her grandpa. How did I receive it? From the love of my life starting when I was ten years old. All these years we still remain in contact. What was she like, shy, smart, cute as a button. What? You expected I hung out at the dog pound when scoping out the babes at the ripe old age of ten? For get about it. This little girl grew up to be come an accomplished author, photographer, poet, artist and makes her husband a very happy man. Of course we will never forget each other, we will always be friend. Random thoughts while observing the passing parade, I’m J.C.
YOU WILL NEVER SEE THIS HAPPEN AGAIN..
THIS IS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE……….
This Email has been circulate. It’s the context with which it was received that brings about the six degrees of separation.
Harry Truman was a different kind of President.
He probably made as many, or more important decisions regarding our nation’s history as any of the other 42 Presidents preceding him.
However, a measure of his greatness may rest on what he did after
he left the White House.
The only asset he had when he died was the house he lived in, which
was in Independence , Missouri . His wife had inherited the house
from her mother and father and other than their years in the
White House, they lived their entire lives there.
When he retired from office in 1952, his income was a U.S. Army pension
reported to have been $13,507.72 a year. Congress, noting that he was
paying for his stamps and personally licking them, granted him an
‘allowance’ and, later, a retroactive pension of $25,000 per year.
After President Eisenhower was inaugurated, Harry and Bess drove home
to Missouri by themselves. There was no Secret Service following them.
When offered corporate positions at large salaries, he declined, stating,
“You don’t want me. You want the office of the President, and
that doesn’t belong to me.
It belongs to the American people and it’s not for sale.”
Even later, on May 6, 1971, when Congress was preparing to award him
the Medal of Honor on his 87th birthday, he refused to accept it, writing,
“I don’t consider that I have done anything which should be the reason for
any award, Congressional or otherwise.”
As president he paid for all of his own travel expenses and food.
Modern politicians have found a new level of success in
cashing in on the Presidency, resulting in untold wealth.
Today, many in Congress also have found a way to become quite wealthy while enjoying the fruits of their offices. Political offices are now for sale. (sic. Illinois )
Good old Harry Truman was correct when he observed, “My choices in life were either to be a piano player in a whore house or a politician. And to tell the truth, there’s hardly any difference!
I say dig him up and clone him!
This is not sent for discussion.
