GOP LEADER ALSO DISCUSSES DEMS’ JOB-KILLING TAX HIKES, AMERICA SPEAKING OUT AND CHAIRMAN CHARLIE RANGEL

During an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) said that with the American people asking ‘where are the jobs?’ and employers frozen by Democrats’ job-killing agenda, Republicans’ forthcoming agenda will focus on getting people working again and cutting wasteful Washington spending.

Boehner highlighted how this economy-focused agenda will represent the culmination of Republicans’ efforts to listen to the American people through America Speaking Out.  Boehner also said that in light of the uncertainty facing employers, the last thing the economy needs are the job-killing tax hikes Democrats plan to impose on families & small businesses.  The situation surrounding Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-NY) and the fiscal challenges facing the nation were among other topics discussed during Boehner’s appearance.  Following are video and excerpts from Boehner’s interview:

  2. Good for Boehner, refusing to allow Gregory to trick him into providing a sound bite about “tax cuts that are not paid for.” There are, of course, no income tax cuts being proposed; there is only well-founded opposition to allowing taxes to increase on January 1, 2011… to cause even more unemployment.

  5. The ‘Sunset Clause’ was the stupidest move the conservatives made.
There should have had to be a vote to keep the tax rates at the current levels, contingent on the economic situation existing within the country.
The economic uncertainty is killing businesses and employment.
Talk about bad timing, although they could never have known at what dire straits the country would be in when they were due to expire.
I guess we just have to chalk it up to naive optimism on the conservatives’ part.
Hopefully, the lesson has been learned.
